Slippery Gulch
A Guide to Gold Hill Nevada
by Maitland Stanley
Fresh from the printer, this is the second and much-improved edition of Mat Stanley's meticulously researched book. It was in 1972 that Mat and his soon-to-be bride Peggy made a visit to the Comstock and stopped in at the Gold Hill Hotel for refreshment. There he began a 30-year voyage of research and discovery that took him to every archive and library in Nevada and California in search of information and photographs of Gold Hill. "It was not my intention to enter into an obsession," he writes plaintively in the introduction. "I wanted only to learn something about this place that somehow intrigued me." In fact, he has become the world's leading authority on Gold Hill, and has amassed the most comprehensive collection of Gold Hill writings and photographs in existence. He's drawn on all of this to produce the new edition of his book, significantly expanded from the original, published in 2003. A great addition to your Nevada bookshelf. (Published by Suzy & Livy Publications in 2009.)
