Eureka Sentinel Museum, Eureka NevadaThe Eureka Sentinel Building a block south of Main has been converted to a wonderful museum, with the old newspaper back-shop as it was left when the last tramp printer finally called it quits in 1960. Eureka Sentinel Museum, Eureka Nevada

It is fully equipped with type cases, working presses await an experienced hand, and the walls are papered with posters and handbills dating back to the 1880s.

The Lead & Silver strikes in the 1860’s were the beginning of Eureka and there’s lots of mining history exhibited here — tools, stock certificates, ledgers and personal items.

The amply stocked bookstore/gift shop offers a whole library on the subject and a photo archive depicts the details of  life in Eureka over the years.

Second floor exhibits depict school life in the early days, and there is a parlor and a kitchen with many items that you will remember from grandma’s house. From the hallway you will look through a window to see the 19th cntury Eureka Barber Shop, complete with oak barber chair.

Current local area information is available here as well, including a self-guided tour leaflet with information about many of the interesting buildings around town.
