The first Catholic Church in Nevada was built by Father Hugh Gallagher in Virginia City in 1860 before burning in the “Great Fire” of October 1875. St. Mary’s was then rebuilt in her current splendor during the height of the Bonanza. Despite many restorations, St. Mary’s remains a Must-See for travelers.
