39 North Pole Village & 5th Annual Griswold Challenge- Sparks
December 1 @ 4:00 pm - December 15 @ 9:00 pm
Non-profit organization 39 North Downtown announced today that the 39 North Pole Village annual holiday light festival in downtown Sparks is canceled this year, but the 5th Annual Griswold Challenge holiday light decorating contest is still happening.
In a statement, 39 North Downtown said they partnered with One Nevada Credit Union to proceed with the holiday light decorating contest, and “encourage local families, friends and businesses to decorate their houses and businesses in a way that would make Clark Griswold proud.”
The community will vote to determine the winners of the contest. Cash prizes will be awarded for first and second place for the best decorated houses and businesses, and winners will also take home the Clark Griswold first place trophy and the Uncle Eddie second place trophy.
Angela Handler, 39 North Events Director, said
“It breaks our heart to make this announcement. 39 North Pole Village has become a tradition for thousands of families in our community. We can’t let them down this holiday season by just canceling our event so we’re adapting and excited to try something new with the Griswold Challenge. We’re asking people in our neighborhoods and local businesses to help us in our mission to bring holiday cheer by lighting up our town and competing in the Griswold Challenge. We hope this will allow families to drive around and enjoy the holiday lights while creating new memories.”
There is a small entrance fee to compete and proceeds benefit the Community Food Pantry. Registration will open in November and the contest will be held from December 1 – December 15. More event details will be released later this month.
